KUDO’s KORNER

At the workshop in February your Board of Officers decided to dedicate a section of the Round-up to spotlight a Communications Agency, Individual or group of Individuals. This is an opportunity to show off your co-workers and/or center for everyone in the Florida Chapter to see.  We all have employees who do outstanding and remarkable jobs daily. Everyone comes across a memo or a nomination for an award, well when you do please forward a copy to a one of the Chapter Officer and we can have it posted in the Florida Chapter round-up as well as on the web-site. We all tend to ask for recognition for outstanding work and this is an avenue to do just that.

A Job Well Done Terrry and Valerie!

On April 24, 2008, ECO Terry Hanley of the West Palm Beach Police Department received an incoming call from an extremely distraught mother who had just discovered that her son had shot himself in the head. ECO Hanley calmed her as best he could in order to get the location and specifics of the incident to ensure that officers would be safe enteringthe scene and to determine if the victim was still alive. Not an easy

thing to hear and even more difficult task is to try to calm a mother who has just seen her dying son. ECO Hanley entered the call and assured the woman that assistance was on the way.

The mother then calls back (as her phone could only make 911 calls) to see if 'we' can free her telephone so that she can contact her daughter to respond to the house. ECO Valerie Moore volunteered to call the victim's sister herself to have her respond to the residence. Not a telephone call anyone wants to make, nor was ECO Moore obligated to do so, but her compassion and professionalism in this situation was exemplary.

The kindness and empathy shown to this family is a just an example of the service that dispatchers from every agency perform everyday.

Kudos Korner is a new section dedicated to spotlight your co-workers or Center!
