Radio
Communications Interoperability Case Study- The Washington
County MD ‘TAC-Stack’ Prototype |
Course
Description:
Washington
County MD Public Safety Communications operates in three
different frequency bands- which is common across the nation.
This has presented communication challenges between agencies.
To solve this problem, Washington County is currently
implementing a common UHF trunked radio system to consolidate
its communications. However, interoperability challenges are
still present with neighboring Counties using other bands. To
create interoperability for mutual aid, Washington County has
initiated this ‘TAC-Stack’ development project- creating
communications links via the National Interoperability
Channels. On the state level, Maryland is encouraging this
concept of providing a means to link agencies together.
Instructor:
Mr. Malinich has over 13 years of maintenance and design
experience in a variety of radio systems. These include analog
and digital conventional systems, trunked systems, simulcast,
paging and mobile data- as well as licensed and unlicensed
microwave. He has prepared RF coverage predictions for a
variety of RF technologies and engineered several microwave
communications links. Brian previously worked as a technician
installing and servicing wireless voice and data systems. His
technical experience in system implementation from the “ground
up” has been an asset to his clients. Currently, Brian’s
primary role at Kimball is Project Engineer; he designs,
develops specifications for bidding, procures and oversees
system implementations.
